Rev.
Beth E. Godfrey
Pastor |
| I was born in Yuma, Arizona, and grew up in Tempe not
far from Arizona State University, home of the Fiesta
Bowl. My parents Peter and Joyce and my brother Jason
still live in the Phoenix metropolitan area. I was baptized,
raised, confirmed, loved and encouraged to seek God by
faithful members of the Presbyterian Church. University
Presbyterian Church in Tempe, AZ, called me to be a youth
deacon and youth leader during my high school years and
then nominated me as a YAD to the 1996 General Assembly.
Because UPC called me to their ministries as a youth I
always knew the church wanted me to participate in their
ministries. |
| After graduating from Northern Arizona University with
a BS in Design in 1998, I moved to Washington D.C. to
work for Knoll Inc., an office furniture manufacturer.
While I was living in the District my church family at
Georgetown Presbyterian and an ecumenical college-aged
ministry pushed me into a time of discernment about my
vocation, encouraging me to consider ordained ministry.
Their communal call was inwardly affirmed and I began
my studies at Princeton Theological Seminary a year later.
Highlights outside the classroom during my seminary years
include being a TSAD at the 2001 General Assembly, an
internship with Thompson Memorial Presbyterian Church
(where the pastor cared about my growth and took the time
to mentor me) and a chaplaincy at Robert Wood Johnson
University Hospital. My seminary friends have become life-long
colleagues in ministry. I thank God for blessing me through
them. |
| I began as a Lake Fellow in Parish Ministry at Second
Presbyterian Church in August 2003, and was ordained in
January of 2004. Beyond my ministry at Second, I’ve
also served on the PC (USA) PLSE Advisory Board, a new
initiative to invite our high school youth and young adults
to consider ministry as a vocation. My service to PLSE
will continue into my ministry in Geneseo. Some of my
interests include photography, knitting, listening to
jazz and staying in touch with my family and friends who
are scattered across the country and world. |
